Martin Mystère and Inspector Travis investigate a series of cases of spontaneous human combustion of which some "contactees" were victims, i.e. people who claim to communicate with extraterrestrial creatures. Travis fears that the next victim could be Bill, "the prophet" of the Church of the Underworld, a bizarre UFO sect. When Bill disappears under mysterious circumstances, the "otherworldly" ask the Detective of the Impossible for help, but someone in the shadows spies on their moves... Martin and Java are investigating the disappearance of Bill, leader of a group of fanatical ufologists, and a series of mysterious deaths of other important "contactees". Getting closer to the truth, the Detective of the Impossible, instead of being faced with extraterrestrial creatures, discovers a secret government project for remote control of the human mind.
