For centuries, two rival Gnostic sects have fought each other with no holds barred: this fight caused the fire of Rome in 64 AD, the disastrous eruption that destroyed Pompeii and many other disasters triggered by fire. The aim of the followers of the "Rotor" is the destruction of the Earth to make way for a new creation, while the followers of the "Sator" want the world to continue its path undisturbed. Martin Mystère also gets involved when he finds himself investigating the death of a scholar, victim of this age-old feud.
