Here, the Detective of the Impossible finds the city invaded by a wave of homicidal madness which seems connected, in some obscure way, to the crossword puzzles published every day by a major newspaper. The wave of homicidal madness that is sweeping New York shows no signs of stopping. Indeed, the fury of the citizens ends up triggering a real manhunt, in which his friend Inspector Travis also takes part and which has Martin Mystère as its intended victim. The cause of everything is a mad scientist, author of the "New York Times" crossword, who manages to give peremptory orders to the solvers of his own crosswords. His last order is: "kill Mystère"!
