The archaeological excavations conducted in Egypt in the Marhabub oasis are full of bad omens: the first expedition, led by Professor Richard Parker, abandoned a tomb buried after Parker's death, while the new excavations, financed by the Egyptian magnate Himotep, are slowed down by some sabotage. The suspicions of May and Legs, hired by the charming Himotep to supervise the works, fall on the City of Osiris, the seat of a mysterious religious sect led by the rich Arturo Vilnius.
