On the outskirts of Garden City, Kansas, Ken Parker rescues Harvey Andrews, passed out during a sandstorm. Bringing him back to the farm, where Harvey lives with his wife Sarah and sons Jeff and Harry (the latter delirious with fever), Ken finds a situation on the verge of survival: there is a shortage of food, water and life prospects.
