Around the Gila River basin in Arizona, a band of Apache raiders attacks a garrison of Fort Bayard, while a half-breed who calls himself Archie Bowers is negotiating the sale of some horses with the sergeant. The Indian attack causes one victim and is followed by a request to welcome the Apache women, old people and children to the fort, welcomed by the colonel with clenched teeth. Shortly after, Lieutenant Hughes tries to rape an Indian girl, but Cochito, her man, breaks in on her scene and saves her by planting a knife in the lieutenant's chest. The two lovers flee from the fort: they will meet Ken Parker.
