In a cellar in Nogales, Mexico, a drunken and abusive Ken Parker gets into a scuffle with the innkeeper. After having given them a thrashing (and thus allowing rich bets among the many bettors) he is thrown in jail. Sharing the cell with him is a young and turbulent boy who claims to be Paul Sherwood and who loves to smoke opium to solve his problems with reality. But Ken knows very well who he really is, and wants to make him change his ways.
