Canto di Natale

The walls of Montana state prisons hide a story of violent and cruel oppression by Finney, a prison guard, against Lyle, Ken's inmate companion. Following Lyle's death, Ken and the other inmates decide to fight back. The voices of the convicts' choir, forced by the prison director to sing the Christmas carol  Silent night, cover the screams of Finney, victim of the prisoners' revenge. Ken becomes co-responsible for a premeditated murder , thus contradicting his own ideals. But Ken is a man, and he is living within a universe where there are no civil rules, where only the abuse and arbitrariness of the strongest against the weakest exist. And Ken, as a weak person, must therefore defend himself, must protect himself and those like him. Finney's murder is certainly dictated by violent anger and the desire for revenge . But at the same time it is an act of defense, of protection of one's life, of demonstration of one's ability to react, of one's survival instinct.. It is an act calculated and planned with reason, but it is the result of instinct.
