Teddy, Ken's adopted son, runs away from home to join his father, who is imprisoned in Rapid City Penitentiary. During his train ride, Teddy reads Ken's third dime novel "Out of time".
While in "Umana avventura" and in "L'inaffidabile" Ken tells of the events that happened to him during the period of his fugitive in Canada, "Out of Time" is chronologically even prior to Ken's arrival in Boston (see n.54 ), being set in the summer of 1878.
