In the heart of Margondàr, in the abyss of the high mountain, Dragonero fights for the second time the ghoul known as Rhooga, that our hero had already killed in the past. Brought back to life by dark enchantments, Rhooga is stronger than ever, and Ian’s only hope to beat him is in the new powers, still unknown to him, of his sword. If on their first clash Rhooga showed that he didn’t possess “any human compassion”, what has this immortal, ruthless warrior in store for Dragonero now?

After being left without any defense from the fierce Ghoul marauders, the citizens of the towns destroyed by the war are forced to ask a band of mercenaries for help. Usually, though, calling this kind of saviors up creates more problems than it solves. Notably, indeed, if their leader is a man without a hint of a conscience, who’s interested only in filling his pockets with gold coins. An utterly dangerous man, whose past conceals heinous crimes and atrocities, remorselessly committed. A ruthless, soulless man!

Carogna regains his freedom after a period spent in the imperial prison of Deimo for some crimes committed after the dissolution of the Greevo Senzanima company. Knowing his past as a mercenary, the prison superintendent suggests that he join a new company that is waiting for the new captain in the nearby village. The man then decides to implement a Machiavellian plan: with the complicity of two thugs met in an inn, Carogna ambushes the officer of fortune who manages to get rid of the others but is finally killed by him.

Arrived at the camp of the mercenary company, he passes himself off as the new captain, succeeding with his gab and his experience in gaining their trust by renaming it "The lucky ones of Carogna". In his new position he meets Aura who has arrived as the company's new military magician, the only one who discovers the truth about him but which he keeps hidden in exchange for his anonymity.
