Zhabèle, Gurwhal's wife, is sent with her husband to the front with the Mountain Enclave , in the Olhim Mountains. Not long after her transfer, the Imperial fort she was staying in is attacked by the Sons of Olhim. Gurwhal loses his life, while Zhabèle is kidnapped as a "war bride". In the camp of her kidnappers, Zhabèle does not give up, and she manages to give all her kidnappers a sleeping pill, taking advantage of her cunning, her skill in the "Dance of the hood" and above all her Tooth of serpent Of her. Before escaping, however, she is stopped by Godmundúr, the chief of the Sons of Olhim, who, noting her cunning and beauty, decided to redeem her as his concubine. Zabhèle accepts this role, realizing that she would make her the "chief's woman", an opportunity she cannot pass up.
