The only survivors of a ferocious arson attack on a farm by a group of Apaches are little Tommy and his grandfather, John Brigham. Tex tries to bring the two to safety, trying to reach the Mescalero post station, a place that would be easily defensible. The Ranger expects the Apaches to return to complete their macabre work. The Indian rebels, led by the bloodthirsty Jorobado, in fact, do not want the news of their escape from the reserve and their raids to reach the soldiers of Fort Apache: the witnesses of their misdeeds must die and they will chase them until they are sure they have sent them to hell!
