Like the famous Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, protagonists of Stevenson's unforgettable tale, Oliver Parker too has the fortune of living a double existence. The first, which presents him as a major of the Fifth Cavalry, guardian of the military laws that regulate life at Fort Jericho (an outpost not far from the Darkwood forest), offers, in truth, no particular interest.
