Zagor's stories often open with what we define, in editorial jargon, as "Chico's gag": an "initial comic" rather than a final one, a humorous sketch that may not even have any relationship with the rest of the adventure, constituting only a fun "appetizer". This is the case of the episode “The Missing Sorcerer” (number 21), and it is an unusual case. First of all because the little Mexican emerges, for once, the winner, and then because a character appears who would have been worthy of further development: Fred Salomon, a veteran from Australia and a great braggart. Almost as much as Chico.
