José Ortiz

José Ortiz Moya (Cartagena, Spain, September 1, 1932 - December 23, 2013) achieved his first significant success in 1958 with the historical saga of his own creation, Sigur il vichingo. He spent the 1960s working in Great Britain, where he produced many war stories published in the magazine Eagle, alternating with science-fiction tales for Once upon a Time; he also published a daily strip in the Daily Mirror, Caroline Baker. The following decade saw Ortiz active in the United States, with contributions to Creepy and other Warren titles.

In the early 1980s, coinciding with his return to Spain, he began a partnership with his compatriot Antonio Segura. Among the series developed by the Segura-Ortiz duo are Hombre, Burton & Cib, Jack lo Squartatore, Morgan, and Ozono, while Ortiz alone published I grandi miti del West with the publisher Toutain.

His official debut with Sergio Bonelli Editore came in 1991 with the sixth Texone, La grande rapina, followed, again paired with Segura, by Il cacciatore di fossili and L'ora del massacro, published in the Maxi Tex series. After drawing a long adventure for Ken Parker, he joined the team behind Magico Vento, in fact inaugurating its publishing run. From 1998 he alternated work on Gianfranco Manfredi's character with work on Tex, before becoming a permanent member of the staff of artists for Tex, save for one of the stories making up the eighth Dylan Dog Color Fest.
