Ivo Milazzo

Ivo Milazzo

Ivo Milazzo (born June 20, 1947, in Tortona) is an Italian comics artist who made his professional debut in 1971, producing Il Cieco for the magazine Horror and Il Palafita for Sorry. He later drew a few episodes of Tarzan for Editrice Cenisio and collaborated briefly with Universo and Ediperiodici.

In 1974, together with scriptwriter Giancarlo Berardi, he created the western serial Ken Parker (whose first issue appeared on newsstands in 1977, published by Editoriale Cepim), of which he was the lead artist and cover artist. Again with Berardi he later created the short series Tiki, followed by Welcome to Springville, L'Uomo delle Filippine (for the Un Uomo un'Avventura collection), Marvin il detective, Tom's Bar and Giuli Bai.

Between 1988 and 1990 he produced two episodes of Nick Raider on scripts by Claudio Nizzi and Giancarlo Berardi, before devoting himself to Magico Vento. He also drew the thirteenth Texone, Sangue sul Colorado, again on scripts by Claudio Nizzi.

Over the years he has collaborated with some of the most important publishers in Europe, producing, among other things, a volume on the life of Giuseppe Garibaldi, one dedicated to the 150th anniversary of Italian unification, and one on the fascinating life of Tina Modotti. In 2014 he also drew Un drago a forma di nuvola, based on a treatment for an unrealized film by director Ettore Scola. Supported by colleagues, associations, politicians and intellectuals, Milazzo has promoted in Parliament an amendment to the Copyright Law concerning animated film and comics, to recognize their rights holders in line with European Directives. From 2011 to 2018 he served as President of the Associazione Illustratori, which evolved in January 2014 into the "Associazione Autori di Immagini" to serve as a reference body for comics and animation as well.
