Guido Zamperoni

Guido Zamperoni (Milan, 21 July 1912 – Milan, 30 January 2003), who also signed his work "Guy Zam," was an Italian comics artist and illustrator whose career spanned nearly seven decades. The son of a Milanese theatrical-costume maker, he began in his father's workshop before turning to illustration, drawing Salgari adaptations for the Giornale dei Viaggi e delle Avventure and debuting in comics in the mid-1930s with works such as I tre moschettieri (1935).

His output included the wartime Saetta series, post-war titles such as Zorro (L'Audace, 1946), Frisco Bill and Jeff Cooper (1948), and participation as an animator on La rosa di Bagdad (1949), Italy's first feature-length animated film. For the French market he produced series including Carabina Slim, Sunny Sun and Rok l'Invisibile, and contributed to Rahan, frequently signing as Guy Zam.

Zamperoni's link to Sergio Bonelli's family of publishers came through Gianluigi Bonelli: for Edizioni Audace he illustrated La Pattuglia dei Senza Paura (1948) and provided pencil artwork for early Tex stories that were subsequently inked by Aurelio Galleppini (Galep).
