Gianluigi Coppola

Gianluigi Coppola (Chiavari, April 16, 1928 - Genoa, August 24, 2015) was an Italian comics artist and illustrator. After art high school he moved to Milan and began working for the comics paper Goal, published by the Gazzetta dello Sport. He assisted Ferdinando Tacconi on Nat del Santa Cruz and Franco Paludetti on Sciuscià. In 1956 he moved to England, where he remained for more than twenty years, but at the start of the 1960s he left comics to devote himself to advertising illustration and to the covers and interiors of books for various publishers.

In 1979 he returned to Italy and began working for Mondadori, illustrating classics for young readers and covers for the Oscar series. He worked for Playboy and Penthouse, and in 1990, after thirty years, he returned to comics. Sergio Bonelli called on him to work on Dylan Dog and Martin Mystère, but in the second half of the decade he once again left comics to dedicate himself to illustration and painting.
