Franco Caprioli (born April 5, 1912, in Mompeo, near Rieti; died February 8, 1974, in Rome) was an Italian comics artist and illustrator regarded as one of the masters of classic Italian adventure comics. After an early period as a painter, he made his debut as an illustrator in 1937 and became a central contributor to the Catholic weekly Il Vittorioso for roughly three decades, where his first creation was Gino e Piero.
A specialist in adventure and seafaring stories, Caprioli also worked for Topolino (notably La tigre del Bengala), Corriere dei Piccoli, the Bonelli-linked weekly L'Audace, and later Il Giornalino, for which he illustrated adaptations of adventure classics such as Michel Strogoff and I figli del capitano Grant. He also drew for foreign markets, including the French series La Patrouille Blanche (scripted by Roger Lécureux) and material for Fleetway in Britain.
