Fernando Fusco

Born in Ventimiglia on August 1, 1929, Fernando Fusco made his debut in Italian comics in 1948 with several episodes of Jeff Cooper, in which the influence of the great American masters of the era is evident. From 1957, and for the following thirteen years, he lived and worked in France, where he created Scott Darnal for Cino del Duca's Éditions Mondiales, Cendrine and Esperanza (Éditions Montsouris), and illustrated many stories for newspapers on behalf of Mondial Press. He also handled the comics adaptation of many television series such as Bonanza, Tarzan, Penna di Falco, and Il cavallo di ferro.

His definitive return to Italy, in 1970, was preceded by several collaborations with Intrepido. For that famous title of the publisher Universo he produced the western series Lone Wolf and I Due dell'Apocalisse (written by Luigi Grecchi). From 1974 he was among the artists on Tex, offering readers a vigorous and powerful characterization of the character. He made his debut on the title with issue no. 168 (L'idolo di smeraldo, from scripts by Gianluigi Bonelli), and over the years drew more than seventy issues, plus the adventure contained in the Almanacco del West 2010, his last for Sergio Bonelli Editore. He later abandoned comics to devote himself to painting. He passed away on August 9, 2015.
